I agree with numbers 3, 4 and 5--just in time, just in case, just try it. However, I strongly disagree with numbers 1 and 2-job related and just enough. My view has always been to successfully integrate technology into education, one must learn the technology. Technology is the only area where it is okay not to know what you are doing and then attempt to teach it or integrate it! I am not saying that teachers as a whole need to become experts, but from my experience, there is no danger of that happening. Increased comfort as a goal as opposed to proficiency is tantamount to starting a project and stating "I have no plan to become very good at this!"</p></div></div><div class="Amp_Content_Outer"><div class="Amp_Top_Wrap"><div class="Amp_Source_First"><span>Amplify’d from <a rel="clipsource" target="_blank" title="http://www.elearnmag.org/subpage.cfm?section=best_practices&&article=71-1" href="http://www.elearnmag.org/subpage.cfm?section=best_practices&&article=71-1">www.elearnmag.org</a></span></div></div><div class="Amp_Middle_Wrap"><blockquote class="Amp_Content_Item" cite="http://www.elearnmag.org/subpage.cfm?section=best_practices&&article=71-1"><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td><p id="AutoGeneratedID-0"><span>How to Help Teachers Use Technology in the Classroom</span><br /><br /><br /><span>The 5J Approach</span><br /><br /><span>By Mary Burns</span><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></p></td></tr></table></blockquote><div class="Amp_Content_Hr"></div><blockquote class="Amp_Content_Item" cite="http://www.elearnmag.org/subpage.cfm?section=best_practices&&article=71-1"><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td><p id="AutoGeneratedID-1"><br />Recent reports (from <a rel="nofollow" href="http://chronicle.com/article/Reaching-the-Last-Technology/123659/"><em>The Chronicle of Higher Education</em></a> and <a rel="nofollow" href="http://grunwald.com/pdfs/Educators-Technology-21stCentury-Skills.pdf">Walden University [PDF]</a>, for example) point to teachers' continuing difficulties integrating technology into classroom learning. The most shocking part? Abstainers’ mortality rates are higher than those of heavy drinkers. But why would abstaining from alcohol lead to a shorter life? It’s true that those who abstain from alcohol tend to be from lower socioeconomic classes, since drinking can be expensive. And people of lower socioeconomic status have more life stressors – job and child-care worries that might not only keep them from the bottle but also cause stress-related illnesses over long periods. The sample of those who were studied included individuals between ages 55 and 65 who had had any kind of outpatient care in the previous three years. The 1,824 participants were followed for 20 years. One drawback of the sample: a disproportionate number, 63%, were men.
